Artists for Amnesty (1977)

Collection of art posters based on art works from the exhibition “Artists for Amnesty” held in New York, Washington DC, Boston, Minneapolis, Houston, Mexico City, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona, London, Munich, Vienna, and Zurich in 1977, when Amnesty International received the Nobel Award for Peace. On this occasion, fifteen artists created special art works for the Amnesty International’s Prisoners of Conscience Year.  These “Artists for Amnesty” included Pierre Fernandez Arman, Max Bill, Fernando Botero, Alexander Calder, Roman Cieslewicz, Jan Dibbets, Piero Dorazio, David Hockney, Alexander Liberman, Joan Miró, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Francisco Toledo, Roland Topor, Tadanori Yokoo,1 and Jack Youngerman. They had worked with and for Amnesty International in order to secure the release of prisoners of conscience, prevent torture and other abuses, and promote human rights.
