CITY FOR THE CULTURES OF PEACE

HER-STORY:

The City for the Cultures of Peace emerged from a series of interdisciplinary conferences and seminars about marginalization as a political, economic social, and cultural phenomenon. (Maison des Sciences de l'Homme, Paris, France, 1994-95 1995; UNESCO, Maison des Sciences de l'Homme, and the University of Paris 7-Denis Diderot, Paris, France 1997; Washington DC, USA, 1998; University of Ottawa, Canada, 1999, 2000). Areas of Research and Activities.

The City for the Cultures of Peace was initiated by Amy-Diana Colin and co-founded by an international group of scholars, scientists, and artists whose work and endeavors not only address key concerns of contemporary societies, but also inscribe into people's mind the idea that respect for the other and mutual recognition are the basis for peaceful human coexistence.  The network was first called Cité de la Paix: International Interdisciplinary Institute, but later changed its name in order to respond to the UNO and UNESCO call for a "culture of peace", but stressed the significance of a plurality of cultures of peace.
