Main Objectives

III and its branch in Lugano—the ICSIM—bring together scholars and scientists from different disciplines, artists, as well as other professionals in order to discuss and find new solutions to key problems of contemporary societies within the goal areas of its programs—problems, which are too complex to be solved by specialists from single areas of activity. Different aspects of a phenomenon, concern or question are analyzed from a multiplicity of perspectives and disciplines, including the historical dimensions. The interdisciplinary approach to research, training, and public work constitutes the specificity of these Institutes. Through their activities the Institutes hope to bridge the centuries old gap between the humanities and other disciplines, including the natural and social sciences, economics, technology, management, and business.

III and ICSIM promote research, education, and public work in the following goal areas:

– INTERCULTURAL COEXISTENCE AND MEDIATION STUDIES

– INCLUSION/EXCLUSION IN PLURAL SOCIETIES

– COMPARATIVE GENOCIDE STUDIES

– COMPARATIVE TOTALITARIANISM STUDIES

– CHILDREN AND YOUTH AT RISK

– INTER- AND MULTIDISCIPLINARY STUDIES
