Objectives

The City for the Cultures of Peace promotes the studying, making, and safeguarding of peace. It order to achieve this aim it has created an International Interdisciplinary Institute conceived as a network of research and training projects focusing on five thematic priority areas:

II. Inclusion/Exclusion in Plural Societies
III. Comparative Genocide Studies
IV. Comparative Totalitarianism Studies
V. Children and Youth at Risk
VI. Inter- and Multidisciplinarity

Special attention is given to:

RESEARCH ON CONFLICT RESOLUTION AND PEACE

The City provides a framework in which international teams of researchers from a variety of disciplines, artists, musicians, social workers, and other professionals develop their own initiatives and/or participate in projects on conflict resolution, on the political, social, economic, and cultural dimensions of peace as well as on the forces, which endanger it: violent nationalism, racism, and fanaticism.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

In cooperation with universities and other academic institutions, as well as worldwide organizations and foundations, the members of the network offer seminars and courses on the multifaceted cultures of peace for students, professionals, and the broad public.

PUBLIC AND SOCIAL WORK

A main objective of the City is the distribution of knowledge about conflict resolution and peace via seminars, lecture series, expositions, and virtual reality shows. Activities address not only those working in the cultural and academic sector, media, business, and industry, but also the broad public. The City supports social work in different areas and the organization of charity performances.
