JR: Women Are Heroes, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 2008, photo by JR

JR developed “Women are Heroes” into a series of exhibitions in order to call for action not only in Rio de Janeiro’s favelas but also in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Kenya, India, and Cambodia. His first film, entitled “Women are Heroes,” was among the movies shown during “La Semaine de la Critique” (International Critic’s Week) in Cannes in 2010. In the same year, his film was part of the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival. In addition, it was nominated for the Caméra D’Or. French theaters showed his film in 2011.

Until June 2014, the Frieder Burda Museum in Baden Baden (Germany) presents a new JR-exhibition. The New York City Ballet invited JR to create a new installation within the framework of its Art Series 2014. For more information about JR’s work, see: wwww.jr-art.net
